InvestmentNews is looking for top financial advisers and associated professionals who are under the age of 40 to be nominated by our readers and others in the financial planning industry.
Nominees for our eighth annual 40 Under 40 project should exhibit qualities of leadership within the financial advice field, such as the drive to succeed, along with prospects for a bright future. He or she must be under the age of 40 on June 7, 2021, which is the date our 40 Under 40 honorees will be announced in the print issue of InvestmentNews and on InvestmentNews.com. Nominees will be considered by InvestmentNews editors based on the following key points:
Accomplishments: We are looking for professionals who are successful in the advisory business, industry-related projects and the wider world in an advisory capacity, as exhibited by their credentials and achievements.
Contribution: We are searching for professionals who promote the financial advice profession, advocate for financial literacy and engage in pro bono financial planning work.
Leadership: We are interested in professionals who offer guidance and successful management within a company or the industry as a whole.
Promise: We want to celebrate professionals who have passion, enthusiasm, great ideas and show a commitment to the field.
Submit a nomination for a stellar young adviser or influencer in the financial planning industry (e.g. academic, consultant) no later than March 5, 2021. After the close date, the nomination process will be closed and submissions no longer accepted. Winners will be selected by InvestmentNews editors and featured in the June 7, 2021 issue of InvestmentNews and online at InvestmentNews.com.

Yes, as long as the majority of their work is with and for the financial advisory industry. Examples might be financial planning professors, financial-adviser-focused practice management consultants, etc.
When does the nomination process end?
March 5, 2021. No nominations will be taken after that date.
When will the winners be notified?
During the month of April.
When will 40 Under 40 be published?
In the June 7 issue, with additional online components around that date.
How will the nominees be judged? Who will choose the final 40?
The four criteria — accomplishment, contribution, leadership and promise — are listed with some examples/clarification on the nominating page. InvestmentNews staff will judge nominees based on the four criteria and will aim to assemble a diverse group that represents a broad spectrum of the financial advice business.
How many people can I nominate?
There is no limit.
What if the nominee turns 40 this year?
As long as the nominee isn’t yet 40 as of the date of publication, June 7, 2021, they qualify. If the person turns 40 before or on June 7, 2021, they do not qualify.
Do I have to include the nominee’s assets under management?
Yes. If the nominee is picked, the profile we write will mention the assets under management. If the nominee is not an adviser, please choose “not applicable” from the dropdown menu.
Can I just call you or send you an email with the name of the person I would like to nominate?
No. Only those nominated through the web form will transfer into the database and be considered for recognition.
I want to nominate someone, but can I remain anonymous?
No, we need to know who you are, though we don’t share nominator information with any third parties third parties, nor do we publish information about who nominated the winners.
Are there rules about whom I can nominate?
You can nominate yourself, a client, a family member, your boss, an employee or an acquaintance. The most important thing is that you state a clear reason for the nomination based on the four criteria.
Will more than one nominee from the same company be accepted?
You can nominate multiple people from one company, but because of the publication’s goal of finding a diverse group, only one would likely be chosen. However, multiple candidates from separate divisions of large conglomerates could be chosen.
What is required of those who are selected?
Candidates who are selected must make themselves available for a phone interview with a reporter. They also will need to provide a high-resolution photograph and fill out a survey. They may be asked to sit for a photo shoot or a video interview. They will be invited to a breakfast and business workshop with former 40 Under 40 winners in New York, but need not agree to attend to be considered.
Can I contact you to see how my nominee is doing in the judging process?
No. We don’t give status reports. If we need any further information, we will contact you. Please be patient.
I want to be picked for 40 Under 40. Will it help to hire a public relations firm?
No. A PR firm would not influence the judging.
